Introducing our first book as part of the Lounge experience!
We’re taking inspiration from one of the greats, J.M.W. Turner. If you’ve ever seen a painting filled with glowing light, crashing waves, or wild skies that feel full of emotion, chances are Turner did it first.
He was a rule-breaker in the best way always experimenting, pushing the limits of what watercolor and paint could do. Turner had a deep love for nature and wasn’t afraid to get messy, moody, or dramatic with his work. His art was all about feeling and atmosphere, which is what makes it so powerful even today.
It inspires me to be more expressive in my own paintings and enjoy the flow of watercolor and focusing on values and emotion through the process of painting and in the painting itself.
As we read How to Paint Like Turner, we’ll get a peek into how he worked and explore ways we can bring some of that same energy and freedom into our own paintings.
If you choose not to get a copy of the book, than I hope you take some time to research Turner and what he painted to become more familiar with his style of painting and how he expressed nature and landscapes.
I’ll be sharing updates to Notes throughout the month as I read the book and work on some of the paintings inspired by his work from the book itself. Please comment, share and let me know what you are working on!
Happy painting!
Nicki
