My simple tips for keeping up with our 30 Days of Drawing Challenge

Take a peek into my process and strategy that is helping me stay consistent without the stress

We are almost at the halfway mark for our 30 days of drawing challenge as part of this month’s Artist Lounge theme. While our monthly themes, PDFs and live sessions are for paid members only, I decided to share this post with everyone in the hopes that it inspires you to join us, create a daily habit and make more art!

If you’re in The Lounge this month, and are sketching daily with me, how are you doing? Have you been able to sketch more often than not?

I hope by sharing this quick video update, that I can offer you some of my personal tips for how I organize myself during these challenges and to help me be more successful with keeping up with my goal of sketching daily.

Here’s a summary of my tips from the video;

  1. Have a clear goal set - similar to what I wrote on the cover of my sketchbook

  2. Have your supplies handy, and limit them so you are not overwhelmed by choice

  3. Prepare visual references ahead of time to help you save time for when you sit down and don’t know what to sketch next

  4. Even if you have just 10 minutes, sit down to your practice and make marks for as long as you can - the pears take literal seconds to draw

  5. Look back over your practice and enjoy the art that you made and let it inspire future art making!

To join our inner creative circle, consider becoming a paid subscriber. Get monthly themed exercises, PDFs, advice, invitation to live sessions, and join the chat to connect with fellow creatives!

When I recorded the video I was without internet and have been for a few days (a bit of a blessing and a challenge!), so here’s a photo of my sketches since then as we ramp up to the half way mark! I can’t believe we are half way into the month and into our challenge.

Before I leave you to sketch, a few reminders for the upcoming live sessions we are hosting this month;

Tuesday, January 20th at 1pm EST is our first live session of the year!

Invitations will go out via email that morning to all paid subscribers and as always will be hosted via Zoom.

Wednesday, January 28th at 1pm EST is our Creative Book Club chat with author Juliette Aristides of Beginning Drawing Atelier.

This chat will be hosted on Substack, so you will be notified on the app when we go live and it is open to everyone! Come with your questions and enjoy our chat about seeing, drawing, art making and whatever else comes up along the way.

If you are not yet a member of The Artist Lounge, come join us for a month, join us for the year, come make art and hang-out with fellow artists and creatives as we lean into being off-line more this year and with paint brush in hand!

Enjoy and see you next week during our live session!

Warmest,

Nicki
